Direct referral for patients with cataracts was first introduced in East Sussex in 2004.

Each of the three PCTs operates a similar but slightly different scheme largely to suit the needs of the main hospital in that area.

Note:  Referrals for cataract surgery should be made direct regardless of the complexity using the form above.

Accreditation for optometrists to treat post-op patients is via the WOPEC scheme. Codes can be provided by the ESLOC Administrator - see the email address on the Contacts page. Once the course is complete, certificates should be sent to the ESLOC Administrator and to Clare Humphrey in the PCT.

From 1st July 2011 - please note that Sussex Eye Hospital referrals should now be made via fax direct to the Sussex Eye Hospital (the number at the bottom of the form) and not via BICS. Any patients in the catchment area for the Sussex Eye Hospital can be referred there even if their optician or GP are not in East Sussex.
